Abstract
1507607 Crop spraying from aircraft CIBA - GEIGY AG 8 March 1977 [25 March 1976] 11975/76 Heading AID [Also in Division B2] An atomizer for mounting on an aircraft for the aerial spraying of crops comprises two aerofoils 10, 12 positioned to provide a Venturi between them and, positioned between the aerofoils, a feed tube 14 having mounted thereon a plurality of nozzles for forming a thin sheet of liquid in the plane of the Venturi, said liquid being atomised by high velocity air moving through the Venturi on both sides of the liquid sheet. The aerofoils are adjustably mounted on end plates (18, 20) Fig. 5 (not shown) so that the Venturi geometry may be altered to control the droplet size. The feed tube 14, Fig. 4, is aerodynamically shaped and the nozzles 16 have flattened tips to produce fan-shaped jets of liquid; both the feed tube and the nozzles may be made from brass tubing. The spacing of the nozzles increases towards the ends of the tube. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), a further aerofoil (23) is mounted between the aerofoils 10, 12 providing a double Venturi with a set of nozzles positioned between each adjacent pair of aerofoils.
