Abstract

1507186 Automatic gain control SONY CORP 19 June 1975 [20 June 1974] 26158/75 Heading H4R In an automatic gain control circuit, particularly for a magnetic recorder, a control signal is derived from the output of the recording amplifier and fed to a variable gain circuit, formed by resistor 4 and transistor 13, via a transistor emitter follower 15. The emitter follower rectifies the signal at the output of the amplifier when it exceeds a predetermined value and provides a low impedance source to charge capacitor 12 to provide a fast attack time, set by variable resistor 16 and capacitor 12, while the decay of the control is set by capacitor 12 and the base emitter resistance of transistor 13. Switch 14 is provided to disable or reset the limiter.
