Abstract
1506990 Separating aromatics and olefins from paraffins DEUTSCHE TEXACO AG 12 Nov 1976 [13 Nov 1975] 47273/76 Heading C5E Olefinically and/or aromatically unsaturated compounds are separated from a paraffin-rich hydrocarbon mixture by treating the mixture with a dehydrated macroporous cation exchange resin in the form of a metal salt (e.g. a copper or silver salt) and the loaded resin is thereafter regenerated by treatment with one or more mononuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (e.g. benzene, toluene or xylene) at 50-150‹C. to desorb the unsaturated compounds. The resin is used in examples to absorb aromatics from deoiled slack wax, hydrogenated white oil, n-paraffins produced from molecular sieve or urea dewaxing, and a white oil produced by refining an extracted spindle oil with oleum. The resin can be rinsed with isooctane at 60-65‹C. before and/or after the desorption or nitrogen can be passed through the desorbed resin to remove mononuclear aromatics prior to a subsequent adsorption stage. The mononuclear aromatics can be stripped from the purified hydrocarbon with water vapour.
