Abstract

Between the door (20) and the housing walls, the microwave oven has a microwave trap with a propagation path (68 to 74). The latter surrounds an inductor seal (22) which has a region of low impedance (which presents a higher impedance value in the case of its transformation to the inlet point) at a distance equal to half a wavelength from the inlet point of the microwaves into the trap or an integral multiple thereof. In order that low production costs and relaxation of the tolerance limits are made possible and, at the same time, in order that safety with respect to escaping energy can be improved, a further inductor seal (104), likewise having a region of low impedance, is provided between the housing walls and the door, in series with the first inductor seal, in the region of the propagation path. The mean distance between this further inductor seal and the outer edge of the door and the first inductor seal (22) is in this case selected such that the second region of low impedance to the outer edge of the door and to the inlet point (68) of the microwaves into the propagation path (68 to 74) is transformed to a higher impedance. This results in two-stage reduction of the energy escaping from the oven space. <IMAGE>
