1506550 Ratchet tool drivers CHAN FUKUENG and HO CHEE WAI 1 Nov 1976 45306/76 Heading B3N [Also in Division B4] A ratchet-drive rotary tool bit holder, such as a screwdriver, comprises a chuck 11 on a rotary shaft 14 in a body 1, a ratchet mechanism 16, 18 controlling rotation of shaft 14 and an actuating member 21, Fig. 4, co-operating with the ratchet mechanism and movable axially of the shaft from a first position in which rotation of the shaft in one direction is prevented, to a second position in which rotation of the shaft in the opposite direction is prevented. the actuating member having a projection 26 engaging an oblique slot 27 in a rotatable sleeve 28 so that rotation of the sleeve causes axial movement of the actuating member between the two positions. As shown, rotation of ratchet wheel 16 is controlled by either of two pawls 18a, 18b pivotable by fingers 24a, 24b connected to projection 26, an intermediate position being possible wherein the wheel is locked in both directions by both pawls. Pin 26 is mounted on a slide 22 and sleeve 28 comprising an inner aluminium member 28a with slot 27 and an outer steel member 28b without a slot. The pistol grip handle 4 of the holder may carry spare bits 7 and is closed off by removable plug 8.
