Abstract
1505860 Treating raw wool wash and rinse water ALFA LAVAL and INSTITUT TEXTILE DE FRANCE 23 Dec 1975 [26 Dec 1974] 52662/75 Heading B1D A method of treating wash and/or rinse water from a raw wool scouring process, said water containing wool-fat (wax), insoluble solids and soluble matter, in which the water is passed through a decanting step, a filtering step, and at least one centrifugal step to produce pure wax, is characterised in that all solid products from the decanting, filtering and centrifugal steps are gathered and carried along by at least one fraction of the water containing wax obtained in said centrifugal step(s) and centrifuged to dry said solids, which are then discharged, whilst the conveying water still containing wax and soluble matter is concentrated by evaporation, the resultant concentrate being centrifuged to produce an aqueous stream containing a high wax content which is returned to a preceding operation. In the figure water from a washing machine 18 is passed through a decanter 3, a brushing sieve 6 and a heat exchanger 8 to the first of a series of centrifugal separators 9, each of which has three outlets. A concentrated emulsion fraction is passed to a second centrifugal separator 14, from which pure wax 17 is separately discharged and a further fraction containing fine solids is passed to a centrifugal drier 19 through line 15, whilst nearly pure water is returned to the washing vessel. Residual water and solids from an evaporator step (evaporator 23) are further centrifuged in centrifuge 26, the solids are returned to drier 19, and a liquid fraction containing soluble matter is discharged. A further liquid fraction from centrifuge 26 containing much wax is returned to an earlier centrifugal step (e.g. centrifuge 14). Soluble matter is thereby discharged from the apparatus concentrated in a small volume of water. Dry solids and pure wax are separately discharged. The greater part of the wash water is reused.
