Abstract

1505265 Lubricants &c. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 25 June 1975 26908/75 Heading C5F [Also in Division C2] A lubricant comprises a lubricating oil and at least 30% by volume of a mixture of amides of formula and/or wherein R is a hydrogen or an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms; each of R' and R<SP>3</SP> is a hydrogen atom, a primary alkyl radical containing from 1 to 25 carbon atoms or a secondary alkyl radical containing from 5 to 25 carbon atoms; each of R<SP>11</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> is a secondary alkyl radical of from 5 to 25 carbon atoms; and x is a numeral of from 0 to 12; and the secondary alkyl radicals present contain carbon chain lengths within the range substantially of 5 to 10 carbon atoms; 10 to 14 carbon atoms; 14 to 15 carbon atoms, 16 to 18 carbon atoms, 17 to 20 carbon atoms, 19 to 22 carbon atoms; and 22 to 25 carbon atoms, said amides in said mixture having secondary alkyl substituents of each of said chain lengths present therein. Other components of the lubricating composition may be thickeners (e.g. a polymethacrylate or a polybutene containing about 2% of isoparaffins), antioxidants (e.g. phenothiazine), anti-foaming agents (e.g. silicone), corrosion inhibitors or detergents.
