Abstract
There is described a process for spin-dyeing acid-modified polymers or blend polymers of acrylonitrile in which basic dyes are incorporated in the spinning solutions of the polymers. These dyes are present as free dye bases and contain at least one primary, secondary or tertiary amino group, a hydrazino, hydrazono or guanidino group as the basic group, this basic group not being attached to an aromatic radical. The basic group, for example in the form of the secondary or tertiary amino group, can also be part of an aromatic, unsaturated or hydrogenated heterocycle. The free dye bases used in the spinning solutions can belong to a wide range of classes of dyes, for example to the azo, anthraquinone, phthalocyanine, benzoxanthene and nitro series. The dyes can be dissolved in the solvent in which the polymer too is dissolved, and the homogenised spinning solution prepared therefrom can be spun by the wet or dry spinning method. The advantage of using the dye bases mentioned in the spinning process is that foreign salts are absent, thus producing completely transparent, speck-free spinning solutions which do not cause clogging or mechanical wear of the spinnerets, which happens in particular when pigments are used. The materials spun therefrom have very high wet fastness and extremely good rub fastness. Their light fastness is substantially improved compared with dyeings obtained on the colourless polymer fibres by dyeing methods from aqueous or aqueous-organic dyeing liquors and dyeing baths.
