1504352 α - (1,2,4 - Triazolyl or imidazolyl)- acetophenones IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 1 Oct 1976 [9 Oct 1975 7 May 1976 20 Aug 1976] 41449/75 18972/76 and 34836/76 Heading C2C α - (1,2,4 - Triazolyl or imidazolyl) - acetophenones of general formula where Y is =N- or =C(R)-; each of R, R 1 and R 2 , same or different, are H, halogen, nitro or alkyl; R 3 is H or furyl, thienyl or hydrocarbyl optionally substituted by halogen, acyloxy, cyano, hydroxy, nitro, alkoxy or optionally halo-substituted alkyl; R 4 is H, halogen, nitro, phenyl, alkoxy or optionally halo-substituted alkyl; n is 1-5, each of the R 4 groups being the same or different when n>1; Z is -CO- or a derivative thereof, or a salt of such a compound, are prepared (a) by reacting a compound of general formula with an aldehyde R 3 CHO or (b) by dehydrogenating a compound of general formula Amongst numerous examples the compounds 1 - (1,2,4 - triazolyl - 1 - yl) - 1 - p - chlorophenacylstyrene and 1 - imidazol - 1 - yl - 1- phenacyl-o-fluorostyrene are produced. Fungicidal compositions comprise a compound of Formula I as active ingredient together with a carrier.
