Abstract

1504042 Packages PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 20 March 1975 [21 March 1974] 11717/75 Heading B8C In a package comprising a rectangular array of cartons 10 having its sides and ends surrounded by a sleeve and being supported at the bottom of the package by inwardly folded portions of the sleeve, the sleeve has been folded to form two end flaps which have been turned up and bonded to underlying portions of the sleeve over only portions 19a of double thickness triangular regions 19 of the flaps. The portions 19a which are spaced inwardly of the boundaries of the triangular regions 19, may be of egg-shaped, tear-drop shape, rounded or of generally triangular shape. The sleeve which is preferably transparent, may be a preformed seamless tube or it may comprise a sheet which has been wrapped around the array and seamed at 15. The seaming at 15 and the bonding of the end flaps may be effected using heat sealing, adhesives or solvents. The sleeve is not applied under tension so that a hand can be inserted between each end flap and the cartons 10 to lift the package, the lifting tensioning the sleeve to grip and hold the array together. The faces of the cartons 10 may have sticky coating which assists in maintaining the integrity of the package during lifting. A bottom support sheet 11 or bottom support strips may be provided.
