Abstract

1503753 Sealing bearings ETS PAUL JACOTTET 5 May 1975 [3 May 1974] 18664/75 Headings F2A and F2B A rotating, or reciprocating, shaft is carried in a bearing to which high pressure sealing fluid is supplied at an area 8, two sealing rings comprised of sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, contact the shaft through areas 13, the sectors are pressure balanced axially and radially. The outer surface 14 of each sector is relieved of fluid pressure by a spring loaded bush 10, carried in a seal 19, which provides a static sealing pressure on the sector. Axial pressure balance is achieved by fluid leakage between seals 22 being removed by a duct 27. The two seals may be applied to the ram of a jack with an additional seal between them and the jack piston and a conventional seal at the other end of the jack piston-rod.
