Abstract

Vulcanizing, moulds, cores &c. for.-In the manufacture of rubber tyres by the internal-pressure system, the mould shells A, B for the tyre casing L are mounted in or form part of containers C, D arranged to provide spaces which are always in communication with the pressure-fluid supply pipe and from which, as soon as the mould is closed, such fluid can be supplied to the space within the tyre casing. As shown in Fig. 2, the shells A, B are mounted in the containers by screws E and the containers, together with their disk-like extensions C<1>, D<1>, provide a pressuretight space with which the pressure fluid supply is in permanent connexion. The two containers are held together by bolts M and, if desired, by inner bolts M<1>. Pressure fluid is supplied to a channel formed between an upstanding flange B' and the inner surface of the core L', and a vent L<4> in the core allows escape of air from inside the tyre casing. The heating spaces around the moulds may have a separate supply of heating fluid, and in order to heat up quickly, a reserve of hot fluid is provided in a steam-heated vessel H<1>. The containers are preferably horizontal, as shown in Fig. 8, the lower one being fixed and in permanent connexion with the pressure fluid supply and the upper hinged to it and adapted to be opened and closed by means of an hydraulic cylinder K<1> and balance weight K<6>. As shown in Fig. 9, the moulds may be arranged back to back and in rows, each row being served by an overhead runway N, and, further, the moulds may be in groups so that while one group is being emptied and filled another may be closed with casings under treatment. A number of modifications are described involving slight differences as regards shape and relative disposition and attachment of the disks C<1>, D<1>, the mould shells and the heating spaces adjacent the mould shells. As regard the cores, they may be solid as shown in Fig. 2, or collapsible, or in the form of an inflatable tube L<3>, Fig. 7, in which case the pressure supply tube L<2> is pulled against the core ring L<x> by a nut to prevent ingress of air.
