Abstract
1503063 Reservoir devices for tandem master cylinders NISSHIN KOGYO KK 1 March 1976 [15 March 1975] 08155/76 Heading F2F [Also in Division H1] An oil reservoir device for use with a tandem master cylinder 1 of a dual line brake system comprises a first oil reservoir tank 8 and a second oil reservoir tank 8<SP>1</SP> connected respectively to the pressure chambers 4, 4<SP>1</SP> of the master cylinder 1; the first tank 8 has an oil inlet 11 at the upper end with a vented closure cap 10 removably fitted thereto; the second tank 8<SP>1</SP> is closed at the top and has a float member 15 disposed therein and fitted with a permanent magnet 14 for closing a reed contact unit 22 when the float member 15 descends to a predetermined lowest oil level l<SP>1</SP> in the tank 8<SP>1</SP>, closure of switch 22 causing energization of an alarm unit 27; the first and second tanks 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are connected by a lower oil passage 18 extending between the tanks 8, 8<SP>1</SP> substantially at a level corresponding to level l<SP>1</SP> and an upper oil passage 18. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the two tanks 8, 8<SP>1</SP> which may be of a transparent synthetic resin material are separately formed and fitted over respective tubular joints 7, 7<SP>1</SP> of the cylinder body 2 utilizing clamping bands 28. The tanks 8, 8<SP>1</SP> are formed with projections 19 and 19<SP>1</SP> adjustably interfitting to form the passages 17, 18. A float member 12 in tank 8 serves to prevent disturbance of the oil surface. The switch 22 which is contained in a tubular housing 13 integral with tank 8<SP>1</SP> is connected via lead wires 21 to alarm unit 27 and voltage source 25. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown) the tanks (8, 8<SP>1</SP>) are formed integral with each other and the tank (8) has a radially inwardly extending annular flange (29) adjustably connected to a joint (7) on the master cylinder body (2) by bolts (31).
