Abstract

1502183 Detecting breaks in needles INSTYTUT WLOKIENNICTWA 9 June 1975 [14 June 1974] 24589/75 HeadingGlN [Also in Division D1] A device for detecting faults in a knitting machine comprises a magnetic sensor placed adjacent the path of the needle latches 2, such sensor comprising a permanent magnet 6 disposed parallel to and outside of a coil 5 having a rectangularsection ferromagnetic core 3 whose width to thickness ratio exceeds 5 to 1 and the operation being that the running oscillating latches 2 produce a sequence of disturbances in the static field of magnet 6 which disturbances induce a sequence of electrical impulses in the coil 5, an interruption in such sequence of impulses indicative of a broken or misplaced latch 2 causing stoppage of the machine or actuation of a signal by way of an electronic analyzer. A plurality of such sensors for a machine may be connected to an analyzer system.
