Abstract

1501947 Continuous sintering furnaces COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 27 Nov 1975 [4 Dec 1974] 48850/75 Heading F4B A furnace for the continuous sintering of pellets of ceramic nuclear fuel material in a neutral or reducing atmosphere, comprises a tubular hearth A extending between lock chambers B, C and having a preheating zone T 1 , a binder removal zone T 2 , and a plurality of sintering zones T 3 -T 8 . The lock chambers are connected to each other to form a closed circuit by means of a conveyer belt D which passes through an air-tight glove box E. The glove box E includes both loading 11 and unloading 13 stations, the operations of which are controlled by detectors D 1 and D 2 . The hearth A includes gaseous inlet pipes 4, 7 for controlling the furnace atmosphere, and an extraction pipe adjacent a condenser 1 for the removal of the binder components. The furnace includes jacks V 1 -V 8 which are provided to successively move containers 14 carrying sub-containers 9 around in a continuous train in a controlled atmosphere.
