Abstract

1501433 Securing reels on hubs COMPAGNIE INTERNATIONALE POUR L'INFORMATIQUE 16 April 1975 [17 April 1974] 15737/75 Heading F2U A reel 1 is locked and unlocked respectively on a hub 2 by successive repeated to-and-fro movements of a member 8. The member 8 may be moved rearwardly towards the portion 35 of the hub either manually or electromagnetically against the action of a return spring 6, the member being secured both to a sleeve 5 which slides over the hub drive-shaft 4 and a rod 9 which slides through the shaft. The sleeve 5 has a groove 7 for carrying one end of three springs 19, three pivots 14 for levers 13 and a pair of pins 23, 24 for co-operating with an annular toothed cam 25 which is free to turn in a groove 26 of the hub. Successive axial movements of the sleeve 5 with its pins 23, 24 causes the cam to step round such that alternate movements permit the pin 24 to enter a groove 28 and increase the length of the return movement to cause a locking action. In the unlocked position shown in Fig. 2 and Fig. 7 (A) the reel 1 is slipped on the hub. During the first rearward movement of the member 8, when the pin 23 steps round the cam, Fig. 7 (B), the levers 17 flip round on their pivots 18 as the springs 19 pass their over-centre positions so that arms 20 press the reel axially against a flange 3 of the hub. Upon the first return movement of the member 8 under the action of the spring 6, the pin 24 enters one of the grooves 28, Fig. 7 (C) to cause the shoes 12 to project radially further in their recesses by their levers 13 and lock radially against the reel 1 through the interposition of a friction tape 30; during this action the levers 17 remain in axially-pressing engagement. The reel now is fully looked. To unlock the reel a second rearward movement of the member 8 is made; this causes the cam to step round by the action of the pin 23 so that upon the second return movement when the pin 24 again enters a groove intermediate the grooves 28, Fig. 7 (A) the shoes 12 remain retracted, Fig. 2, and the reel 1 can be slipped off the hub against the spring pressures of the levers 17 causing the levers to pivot back to the position shown in Fig. 2.
