Abstract

1501101 Vibrators HYGRADE FINISHES Ltd 16 Jan 1975 [10 Jan 1974] 01211/74 Heading F2S [Also in Division B3] A vibratory machine has two eccentric weights mounted on one end of a rotatable drive-shaft, there being means located at the opposite end of the shaft to change the relative angular positions of these weights. In one embodiment, a finishing machine comprises an annular bowl 10 resiliently mounted by springs 11 on a base 12 with a circular plate 13 within the inner periphery of the bowl 10 mounting the casing 14 of an electric motor 15. The motor 15 includes a vertical hollow drive-shaft 16 coaxial with the bowl 10 and carrying one eccentric weight 17 at its upper end and two relatively adjustable eccentric weights 18, 19 at its lower end. The lowermost weight 19 is not directly connected to the shaft 16 but is clamped to a second shaft 21 passing upwardly through the hollow interior of the shaft 16. At its lower end, the shaft 21 has external splines 22 which may engage internal splines 20 in the lower end of the shaft 16. The upper end of the shaft 21 carries a lock-nut which bears on top of the shaft 16 to clamp the weight 19 or a collar on the inner shaft 21 against the lower end of the drive-shaft 16. In use, the articles to be finished and finishing chips are placed in the bowl 10 and by suitably positioning the eccentric weights relative to one another the articles are caused to move in a helical path around the bowl 10 when the motor 15 is switched on. To adjust the relative positions of the two bottom weights 18, 19 from above, the lock-nut at the top of shaft 21 is released, the shaft 21 lowered to disengage the splines 20, 22, and the shaft 21 turned.
