Abstract

1500282 Lubricants ETHYL COOPER Ltd 21 Feb 1975 [28 Feb 1974] 9074/74 Heading C5F [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A lubricating composition comprises a lubricating oil and one or more compounds of the formula wherein in Formula (I) R is the residue of an intramolecularly sulphur-bridged hydrocarbon ring containing from 6 to 12 carbon atoms or wherein in Formula (II) is a polymer comprising the residue of a plurality of substantially intermolecularly sulphur-bridged hydrocarbon rings each containing from 6 to 12 carbon atoms, n being the degree of polymerization; each R' is the same or different and is an alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkenyl or aralkyl group; and A is a nucleophilic group, specifically -SC(S)OR<SP>1</SP>, -XH, -XR<SP>3</SP>, -XC(X)R<SP>3</SP>, -XC(X)N(R<SP>3</SP>) 2 , -XP(X)(OR<SP>3</SP>) 2 , -CN or -NCS, where X is O or S and R<SP>3</SP> is alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl.
