Abstract

1499765 Bearings C L FROST & SON Inc 9 April 1975 14584/75 Heading F2A [Also in Division A1] A spindle assembly 10 for a rotary mower comprises a spindle 14, supported by upper and lower bearings 16 and 18 and carrying at its upper and lower ends a drive pulley 24 and a blade support 28, respectively, the lower bearing 18 being clamped in a bearing cup 65 formed by central openings in first and second support members 36, 48, the upper bearing 16 being embraced by an inner flange 62 of a frustoconical third support member 58, the frustoconical member 58 and one of the first and second support members 36, 48 terminating radially outwardly at a locus and being interconnected together, e.g. by a lip 80. A lower lip 46 of the cup 65 co-operates with a bearing/blade support spacer 30 to provide a cutting action and so prevent the entry of grass to the bearing. In Fig. 3 (not shown), all three support members are frustoconical.
