Abstract

1498977 Routers ROTOR PLANET Ltd 2 Sept 1976 [13 Sept 1975] 37719/75 Heading B5L A router comprises a base 1 arranged to support an electric motor, a sole plate 2 disposed under the base and having an opening 11 therein for a rotary cutter 22, and first and second connection means provided respectively at first and second ends of the base for retaining the ends relative to the sole plate, the first connection means being arranged to permit pivoting movement of the sole plate relative to the base about the first end thereof, and the second connection means being operable to effect adjustment of the separation of the second end of the base and the sole plate. The base plate has an upstanding handle 5 and the motor can be clamped between the end of the handle and a body part 3 of the base plate with its drive shaft located within a hole 4. One end of the body part has a through hole 6, and the other end is formed with a slot 7 and a threaded hole 8. The sole plate 2 is of steel with a flat body part 9, an upstanding edge part 10 and an opening 11. A screw 12 at one end of the body part 9 passes through the hole 6 in the base 1 and is engaged by a nut 20. A flange element 13 at the other end of the sole plate is engaged by a groove in a screw element 17 in the hole 8 in the base, rotations of the screw element effecting pivotal adjustment of the sole plate about the connection provided by the screw 12 and hence the depth of end of a cutter 22 located within the opening 11 and mounted on the drive shaft of the motor. A lock nut 19 on screw element 17 secures the sole plate in its adjusted position. A depth limiting device 23 for use in cutting rebates has a bar 25 with a slotted projection 26 engaged by screws in holes 15 in the edge part 10. A device 24 for positioning the cutter sideways so that it is aligned with or projects beyond the edge part 10 consists of a bar 27 secured by screws to the sole plate and a screw 28 which projects horizontally from the edge part 10 of the sole plate and has a nut 29 engaged in the slot 7 in the base plate, a spring 30 holding the nut against movement caused by vibrations from the motor.
