Abstract
1498656 Agglomerating tetrafluoroethylene polymer/filler blends E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 21 May 1975 [24 May 1974 (2) 11 Dec 1974 (2)] 21914/75 Heading C3P Non - melt - fabricable granular tetrafluoroethylene polymer particles of average size below 200 microns and particulate hydrophilic filler particles are agitated in a water/immiscible organic liquid medium in the presence of an organosilane and/or a soluble (i.e. non-crosslinked) silicone resin. The organosilane has at least one amino functional group attached to the Si atom through a Si-C bond and at least one hydroxyl or water-hydrolysable functional group attached directly to the Si atom. The amino functional group may be a C 1-14 aliphatic or aromatic group having a primary, secondary or tertiary amino substituent; the water-hydrolysable group may be OH, Cl, F or C 1-5 alkoxy; any remaining groups attached to Si may be alkyl, aryl, aralkyl and alkaryl. The silicone resin contains the recurring structure where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are both C 1-20 hydrocarbyl or one of R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> is H and the other is C 1-20 hydrocarbyl. In examples, the organic liquid was tetrachloroethylene and the organosilicon compound was (1) γ-aminopropyl triethoxysilane, (2) phenylmethyl siloxane and (4) a mixture of α-aminopropyl triethoxysilane and phenyl methyl siloxane. The tetrafluoroethylene polymer may be a homopolymer or a copolymer which is non-melt-fabricable and contains, e.g up to 2% of units derived from C 3-6 perfluoroalkenes. Exemplified fillers are glass fibres, bronze/molybdenum sulphide and bronze.
