Abstract

1498304 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems EATON GmbH 8 Jan 1976 [10 Jan 1975] 00622/76 Heading G3P A hydraulic system for a vehicle comprises a prime mover 1 supplying power to a vehicle drive 30 and to a hydraulic power-consuming device 20 and means responsive when excess power demand is made on the prime mover to limit the quantity of fluid supplied to the device 20. The prime mover 1 drives pumps 2 and 3, and fluid from the pump 2 is directed by shuttle valve 17 to the device 20 via the central passage of a control valve 12 and a throttle 35 which is spring-biased to a fully open position. The output of the pump 3 is vented to the tank through annular passage 25 in axiallymovable member 24 of the valve 12. When the flow through the central passage of the valve 12 exceeds a first level the member 24 is moved to obstruct the fluid from the pump 3, which flows through non-return valve 8 to reinforce the fluid from the pump 2; when the flow exceeds a second level spring-loaded throttle member 27 of the valve 12 is moved to allow the fluid to by-pass throttle opening 28. If the pressure in hydrostatic vehicle drive 30 becomes excessive the shuttle valve 31 is actuated so that this pressure acts on fluid motor 33 to reduce the opening of the throttle 35, the resulting reduction in flow through the valve 12 allowing the member 24 to return and allow the venting of the output of the pump 3, thus reducing the load on the prime mover 1. The return flow from the device 20 may by-pass the throttle 35 through non-return valve 36. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), if the speed of the prime mover 1 falls below a safe minimum level, centrifugally-operated switch (44) is opened, causing valve (38) to open a passage (39) in parallel with the valve 12 to vent the fluid from the pump 3 to the tank. Also, if break switches (42), (49) are opened, for example upon reception by the vehicle of a load, then the valve (38) will open the passage (39) and a throttle (40) will limit the flow from the valve 12 to the device 20.
