Abstract
1498015 Lamp failure indicators GEC-ELLIOTT TRAFFIC AUTOMATION Ltd 13 March 1975 [13 March 1974] 11200/74 Heading G4N In a device for monitoring an AC circuit for differentiating between first and second impedance, conditions, the instantaneous value of the current is gated out at G1 by means of a strobe pulse m arranged to occur at a time in each cycle when the current waveform is substantially different in the first and second conditions. The invention is applicable to detecting failure of tungsten halogen lamps L in a traffic light system. Each lamp L is fed via a step-down transformer T; waveforms b and a of Fig. 2 showing the current respectively in first and second conditions. A strobe pulse d is derived by a monostable m triggered at 90 degrees by a phase shifter P. Circuits G1 ... G3 are arranged to produce a constant current pulse at the time of the strobe m in the event of failure of the respective lamp L. The sum of the pulses across R5 is compared in the differential amplifier C with a constant current from G, the circuit being arranged so that capacitor Q is only charged if the number of failed lamps is greater than a predetermined number which may be O. The voltage across capacitor Q is passed by a driver D to energize a control relay S which switches off power to the traffic light system in the event of such a failure.
