Abstract
1497912 Polyether / aminoplast blends AMERICAN CYANAMID CO 28 Oct 1975 44460/75 Heading C3R Polyether / aminoplast blends comprise a water-soluble or water-dispersible blend of (A) from 10 to 90% by weight of a water-soluble or water-dispersible polyether polyol containing only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen and optionally halogen atoms, having an average molecular weight of 250 to 2000, at least two alcoholic hydroxy groups, from 80 to 20% by weight of hydrophobic moieties derived at least in part from aromatic or cycloaliphatic compounds and correspondingly from 20 to 80% by weight of hydrophilic moieties consisting of units and (B) correspondingly from 90 to 10% by weight of a compatible aminoplast crosslinking agent having an average molecular weight not greater than 1000. The polyether polyol may be prepared by reacting a phenolic novolak, a bisphenol or hydrogenated phenol with ethylene oxide and optionally another alkylene oxide. Conventional aminoplasts which may be alkylated are used. Wetting agents flow-control agents, pigments and catalysts may be added to the polymer blends. The blends may be used in the form of waterbased coatings on substrates of which iron phosphated steel panels are exemplified.
