Abstract

1497408 Culturing tissue cells STRATEGIC MEDICAL RESEARCH CORP 13 Dec 1974 [14 Dec 1973] 17501/77 Divided out of 1497406 Heading C6F A method for increasing the life span of tissue cells in a culture medium, in which they tend to die after being grown over an extended period of time, involves growing the cells in a culture medium containing an effective amount of certain defined ethereal mono-subsitution products of monosaccharide derivatives. The Example relates to the cultivation and survival of human embryonic fibroblast cells WI-38 in tissue culture media containing 2, 20 or 40 Ág/ml of 1, 2, o-isopropylidene-3-o- 3'-(N', N'-dimethylamino-n-propyl)-D-glucofuranose. HcL. Addition of the compound reduced the loss of viability by 75% when after cultivation for 72 hours at 34‹C or 15 days at 37‹C 95% of the cells would otherwise have been no longer metabolizing.
