Abstract

1497254 Road surface boxes; hinges AMBERHOLT Ltd 20 Dec 1974 [26 Sept 1973] 45152/73 Headings E1G and E2F In a surface box of cast iron or plastics a lid 10 is hinged to a frame 26 by two coaxial hinge pins 15 inserted axially from inside the box through respective corner lugs 14 on the lid into sockets in the frame, each pin 15 being retained by a member 23-24 snapped into a holder 18 on the lid. As shown the snap-in members for the two hinge pins are of plastics and are connected for handling by a frangible rod 25, and each comprises a head 24 on a disc 23 snapped radially into an undercut part-circular socket 20 of the holder 18, the head 24 bearing against the small head 21 of the pin 15. The lid and frame may be of nylon or of glassreinforced polypropylene, and may be reinforced by embedded perforated plates of mild or stainless steel. The lid has a non-slip surface provided by stipples or by leather-like meandering linear depressions.
