Abstract

1496710 Furo[3,4-e]-as-triazines SANDOZ Ltd 28 April 1975 [1 May 1974 12 Aug 1974] 25233/77 Divided out of 1496709 Heading C2C Novel furo[3,4-e]-as-triazines of the general Formula I wherein X is -N = or -N(#O) =, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared (a) when X is -N=, by reducing the corresponding compound in which X is -N(#O) = in an inert organic solvent under an inert atmosphere; and (b) when X is -N(#O)=, by nitrating the corresponding compound in which the phenyl group is unsubstituted in an inert organic solvent, followed optionally by salification of the product. Pharmaceutical compositions having sleepinducing and minor tranquillizing activity comprise, as active ingredient, a furo[3,4-e]-astriazine of the general Formula I or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.
