1496705 Acoustic direction finding apparatus STANDARD TELEPHONES AND CABLES Ltd 18 March 1976 [26 March 1975] 12580/75 Heading G1G In direction finding, a moving sound source is simulated by successively exciting at the same frequency a rectilinear array of loud-speakers, the bearing of a receiver being found from the apparent Doppler shift. A reference frequency which may be the same as the array frequency or offset to define a required guidance angle may be transmitted beforehand, simultaneously, or in time-multiplex with the array transmissions. Adjacent loud-speakers may be a half wavelength apart or less, each loudspeaker may be energized for 1, 4 or 5 cycles. The array frequency may be 1kHz or 1.5kHz with an offset reference frequency of 1.7kHz.
