Abstract

1496560 Water-soluble disazo dyes HOECHST AG 4 Dec 1975 [20 Dec 1974] 49826/75 Heading C4P Novel disazo dyes having the formula (where R 1 is methyl, ethyl, #-hydroxyethyl or #- cyanoethyl; R 2 is phenyl and the group -OR 1 is ortho or para to the azo group) are prepared by diazotising 4-aminoazobenzene-4<SP>1</SP>-sulphonic acid and coupling with ortho- or para-phenyl-phenol and then alkylating the free hydroxy group in the resulting product; also mixtures of dyes of the above formula are prepared similarly using a mixture of o- and p-phenyl-phenol as coupling component. The dyes are used for colouring natural and synthetic polyamide fibres in golden yellow to orange shades.
