1496553 Alkylated silica INST FIZICHE KHIM IM LV PISARZHEVSKOGO AKAD NAUK UKRAIN SSR 22 Oct 1975 43245/75 Heading C1A Alkylated silica having a B.E.T. surface area of more than 180 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. is produced by treating silica of B.E.T. surface area greater than 180 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. with water vapour to humidity the silica, and treating the humidified silica with the vapour of an alkylchlorosilane in a fluidized bed. The silica starting material may be one which is modified with metal oxides, e.g. oxides of Al, Fe, Ti, Zr or mixtures thereof. The alkylchlorosilane used may be dimethyldichlorosilane.
