Abstract
1496028 Spinning yarns ZINSER TEXTILMASCHINEN GmbH 4 Aug 1975 [3 Aug 1974] 32435/75 Heading D1F The operation of an open-end spinning machine each rotor of which has a fibre collecting groove within which a yarn is twisted and whence the yarn is withdrawn, is monitored, particularly to detect and assess periodic yarn faults e.g. changes in fibre mass across the yarn cross-section occuring along the length thereof, by establishing a predetermined amplitude for a characteristic parameter associated with the withdrawn yarn; establishing a predetermined occurence frequency level of the characteristic parameter amplitude from at least one known rotor parameter e.g. groove circumference; continuously measuring the amplitude of the characteristic parameter of the withdrawn yarn from each rotor; detecting a periodic occurence of the amplitude of the characteristic parameter (such amplitude having a frequency which corresponds to the predetermined frequency level); comparing measured and predetermined values of amplitude for corresponding occurence frequencies and producing an error signal when the former exceeds the latter. The signal may be transmitted to, and initiate operation of a servomechanism to control correctively, and without interruption, the operation of the machine. Faulty yarn may be so directed that it is collected on a waste take-up or bobbin until the fault(s) is/are remedied.
