1495879 Die for extruding honeycomb structure COVEMA Srl 18 May 1976 20373/76 Heading B5A A plastics honeycomb structure is extruded from a shaping passage 11 defined between a die 3, and a plurality of mandrels which extend downstream from a part 9 of an adaptor 2, the die 3 and the adaptor 2 being releasably attached at bolts 4 to a die head 1, to facilitate replacement by another shaping means for the extrusion of a honeycomb of a different size and/or shape, or the extrusion of a solid section. To prevent defects to the honeycomb arising during its passage from the die through a vacuum sizing means, atmospheric pressure is admitted to the bores of the honeycomb, via an adaptor inlet passage 14, 13, an adaptor bore 12 extending through the part 9 transversely of all the mandrels, and a passage 16 extending longitudinally through each mandrel 9 to its downstream end. The plastics material is delivered to the extrusion passage 11 from a die head passage 7, via a passage 17 extending transversely across the adaptor and divergent passages 6 connecting along a continuous passage 8 extending on the adaptor downstream face around the mandrels, and interconnected passages 10 defined between adjacent mandrels 9 and between the mandrels and the surrounding die 3.
