Abstract
1495808 Switches SIEMENS AG 26 June 1975 [5 July 1974] 27195/75 Heading G1A A switch comprises a first device 12 able to emit radiation, a second device 13 able to respond to the radiation and a switch actuating member 8 arranged to move a radiation reflective surface 16 between a first position in which the surface provides a path, by reflection, between the devices 12, 13 and a second position in which the path is broken. The first and second devices 12, 13 and the surface 16 are so arranged relative to one another that on actuation of the switch, the surface moves towards both the first and second devices. The first and second devices 12, 13 are a light transmitting diode and a photo-transistor respectively and are each provided with a lens 14, 15. The actuating member 8 is of plastics material and has a cylindrical skirt 21 which acts as a spring to urge the member to its rest position. The member may be held in its actuated position by a mechanical or magnetic latch. In the actuated position the member 8 engages a screening wall 17 arranged between the two devices. The switch housing is in a two snap featured parts 5, 6; 9 so that it can be mounted in an aperture 2 in a plate 3. Radiation may be conducted into and out of the switch body by optical fibres. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the strut of the actuating member is replaced by helical formations.
