Abstract

1495210 Seals THOMAS BROADBENT & SONS Ltd 7 July 1976 [8 July 1975] 28623/75 Heading F2B [Also in Division B2] A sealing arrangement between members 16 and 30 of a centrifuge (see Divisions B1-B2) comprises an elastomeric U-shaped sealing ring 22, Figs. 3 and 4, located in a groove 28 to which pressurized fluid is supplied from a chamber 38 through a passage 36 to force the sealing ring into contact with the members. The arms 24 of the sealing ring converge towards the base portion of the ring and project beyond the base into two sealing lips 26. In a modification, Fig. 6, the ring 70 has an axially extending tapered rim 72 for scraping solids from the member 16. A P.T.F.E. anti-extrusion ring (82), Fig. 7 (not shown), may be provided in the groove below the sealing ring.
