Abstract

1493577 Vehicle guidance systems HAWKER SIDDELEY DYNAMICS Ltd 27 Nov 1974 [27 Nov 1973] 54874/73 Headings B7H and B7L A vehicle guidance system comprises a vehicle 46, Figs. 1 and 2, and a track 48 having track junctions, the vehicle 46 having steerable support wheels 8 which are arranged to be automatically steered by mechanical steering means including guide wheels 2 engaging guide rails 1, the vehicle further having a selector 3 which is pivotally mounted to allow a selected one of switch wheels 3a provided thereon to engage an associated switch rail 4 or 5 to enable track selection at track junctions. As illustrated, the mechanical steering means includes a yoke 6 slidably mounted on a cross-shaft 13 and operably linked by a lever 7 to a pivoted track rod 47. The vehicle may comprise non-steerable support wheels in addition to the steerable support wheels. In a modification of the illustrated system, the selectors 3 may be positioned below the running surface of the track 48 and have switch wheels engageable with outer surfaces of the guide rails 1. In such a system, separate switch rails 4, 5 are not provided. Electrical power collection.-The vehicle 46 may be provided with a three-phase electrical collection arrangement comprising collector shoes 27, 30, 33, 36, 39, 42, Fig. 4, engageable with conductor rails 28, 31, 34, 37, 40, 43 mounted below the slot 53, Fig. 1, formed between the guide rails 1.
