Abstract

1493529 Treating electro-photographic members XEROX CORP 21 April 1975 [26 April 1974] 16467/75 Heading G2C A method of treating an electro-photographic material to increase its flexibility and durability which comprises heating and stretching to orient . the material, the material comprising a support (preferably conductive), a photo-conductive charge generating layer and a brittle, non-oriented polymeric layer capable of transporting charges, the heating step being carried out above the glass transition temperature of the polymer. Preferably, biaxial stretching increasing dimensions by 80- 300% in both directions is carried out. Specified photo-conductors are Se, ZnO, ZnS, CdS, CdS Se, Cd Se or TiO 2 or a mixture of Se and polyvinyl carbazole (PVK) or PVK sensitized with trimitrofluorenone. Specified polymeric charge-transporting layers are polyvinyl carbazole, substituted polyvinyl carbazoles, polyvinyl pyrene, polyvinyl anthracene, polymethyl-enepyrene, polypyrenyl butadiene and the polyacrylamide of pyrene. Normally, the stretch orienting step is carried out on the complete material but it may be performed before the photoconductive layer is applied.
