Abstract

1493143 Spot-type disc brakes BRAKING SYSTEMS CO Ltd and J PIZZEY 8 Aug 1975 [5 Sept 1974] 38808/74 Heading F2E In a reaction-type disc brake the brake members 18, 22, and a further member 32 are carried by a sleeve 14 which is slidably mounted in a casing 10, brake member 22 is slidably mounted between the other two members which are fixed adjacent opposite ends of the sleeve 14, and the sleeve has an opening 16 between members 18, 22 for reception of the periphery of a disc. Actuation is by rotation of a cam 24 having flats 28, and retraction is by a spring associated with brake member 22. The cam, instead, may have a tapering configuration and be reciprocable in the manner of a wedge along a line perpendicular to that along which the members 18, 22 and 32 are displaceable relative to casing 10. Alternatively the cam may be a face cam rotatable about an axis along which the members are displaceable, the further member 32 and member 22 then having cam faces complementary to those on the cam so that the spacing between them is varied by rotation of the cam. In the embodiment shown, slack adjustment may be provided for by constructing the cam so that the distance between the flats may be adjusted; alternatively means may be provided for setting the cam in neutral positions which vary the separations of members 22, 32. The brake may be used to control longitudinal movement of strip material.
