Abstract
1492905 Ship stabilizer system VOSPER THORNYCROFT Ltd 1 March 1976 08127/76 Heading B7M A stabilizer system for a ship comprises at least one pair of fins, the fins of the or each pair projecting from opposite sides of the ship and being rotatable about axes generally normal to the respective adjacent surfaces of the hull, actuators for rotating the fins, a control system for causing the fins to rotate to minimize roll, and setting means to set the control system to a condition in which all the fins are simultaneously brought to a nose down position to effect braking action on the ship. Each fin 12 is positioned by an hydraulic actuator 13 controlled by a control unit 14, roll-sensing gyroscope 15, control panel 17 which is situated in the engine room and a control panel 11 situated on the bridge. Control signals are fed to the control unit 14 from the roll-sensing gyroscope 15 and a feed back device 16 connected to the fin 12. An override signal line 18 can transmit a signal from the panel 17 to cause the fin to rotate to a nose down position. The signal is initiated by depressing a "brake" button on the bridge control panel 11.
