Abstract

1492900 Automatic control systems FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 7 Oct 1975 [30 Oct 1974] 40938/75 Heading G3N The fuel supply to an I.C. engine is enriched if the measured engine acceleration is above a pre-set value and in a given frequency range. The enrichment is inversely proportional to the sensed engine temperature. As shown, a signal on input 110 having a frequency proportional to engine speed is integrated by amplifier 120 to form a voltage dependent upon the speed. This voltage is applied to a T-filter, differentiator and threshold circuit 18 which gives an output if the engine acceleration (or deceleration) is within a given frequency range indicative of engine roughness and is above a pre-set value. Provided the engine is running as sensed by circuit 20 from the input 110, and the above conditions are met, switch 46 is opened to open switch 44 and allow a signal inversely proportional to engine coolant temperature (as measured by thermistor 22) to pass via amplifiers 64 and 92 to form an output signal V that is used to enrich the engine fuel supply e.g. of a fuel injection system. The fuel is also enriched by opening switch 42 if the engine is being started, as sensed by circuit 20 from the engine ignition switch. The gain for the temperature dependent signal via switch 42 is different than via switch 44. In both cases the fuel enrichment is inversely proportional to engine temperature, and is multiplied by an engine fuel demand signal to form a fuel control signal. If the engine is not started and the acceleration is not within the given frequency range and above the pre-set value, the fuel is enriched by a signal of fixed magnitude as set by potentiometer 70 in switching circuit 12.
