Abstract

1492870 Horticultural cabinets B JACKSON 3 May 1976 [28 June 1975] 27421/75 Heading A1E A cabinet for growing plants such as tomatoes and germinating seeds, comprises side panels 3 in frames 4 interconnected by crossmembers 7, 9, 10, front doors which are movable to give direct access to all parts of the interior, a sloping roof 8, and a removable trough 16 forming the base of the cabinet. The trough has drainage holes at one end and is mounted on blocks 17 giving a slight tilt so that water drains into a receptacle 18. The cabinet may be of lean-to construction, or it may be free standing and completed by a back panel 13. The front is formed by sliding doors 11, 12. For growing seeds or seedlings trays 14 span the intermediate crossmembers 10. For growing tomatoes the trough is filled with growth medium. The wall panels may be of glass or transparent or translucent plastics, and the framework may be of channel section metal or of extruded plastics. Controllable ventillating apertures may be provided, or the roof may be hinged to provide ventillation.
