Abstract

1491747 Epoxysiloxane/aminosilane synthetic fibre-treating compositions TEIJIN Ltd 12 Feb 1975 [12 Feb 1974] 6015/75 Heading C3T [Also in Division D1] A composition for treating synthetic fibres for quilt-filling comprises (a) 1 p.b.w. of an aminosilane R 1 NH-R 2 -Si(OR) 3 , where R 1 is H, Ph or a C 1-4 alkyl group, R 2 is a C 1-4 alkylene group and each R is a C 1-4 alkyl group, and (b) 1-20 p.b.w. of an epoxysiloxane containing at least one unit -SiR<SP>1</SP> 2 O- and at least two units where R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1-3 alkyl group, R 9 is a C 2-5 alkylene group or a C 6-10 arylene group, and R 8 is as R<SP>1</SP> or is The composition may be applied to synthetic fibres in organic solvent solution or in aqueous emulsion and may also contain an emulsifier and/or antistatic agent. In examples 1 p.b.w. of aminopropyl triethoxysiloxane is mixed with 10 p.b.w. of a polysiloxane of M 3 SiO 0À5 , Me 2 SiO and epoxypentyl-MeSiO units of 6,000 cS/ 25‹ C. containing 1 wt. per cent epoxy groups dispersed in water containing cetyl potassium phosphate and polyoxyethylenated nonylphenol; this composition is varied by using aminopropyl trimethoxysilane, methylaminoethyl triethoxysilane or phenylaminopropyl trimethoxysilane, by using epoxysiloxanes of 500-150,000 cS/25‹ C. or having 0À5 or 3 wt. per cent epoxy groups or containing epoxyethylphenyl groups or di(epoxypentyl)siloxane units or by varying the silane : siloxane ratio from 1 : 1 to 1 : 20. The emulsions are applied to tows of polyethylene terephthalate fibres which are then crimped, heated and cut to give quilt filling.
