Abstract

1491042 Laminated waterproof sheet IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Oct 1974 46963/74 Heading B5N [Also in Division E1 A sheet for protecting dams, ponds, canals and culverts against water comprises (i) an upper layer of bands, (i.e. strips whose width is appreciably greater than their thickness) each band comprising a core of continuous filaments encased in a thermoplastic polymeric sheath, interwoven together or overlaid and bonded at at least some intersecting points; (ii) a film layer, and, optionally, (iii) a woven or non- woven synthetic fibre layer, the layers being joined at spaced positions. Specified materials for the layers are: (i) filaments of polyethylene terephthalate, linear polypropylene, nylon 6 or 66, or glass encased in polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, polypropylene, hydrocarbon copolymer, polyester or polyamide; (ii) polyethylene, polypropylene or ethylene-propylene copolymer; and (iii) bonded non-woven polyamide. The layer (i) may be with or without spaces between the bands. The bands may be made by extrusion-coating parallel spaced groups of filaments. The layers may be bonded along spaced intersecting lines by adhesive, tape, heat or supersonic means. The layer (ii) may protrude for interleaving adjacent sheets, which are then taped together. The sheet may be held in position by pins or stones and may be coated with bitumen. It may be placed against the drainage layer of a dam on the side remote from the water.
