Abstract
1489823 Settling tank SIMON-HARTLEY Ltd 11 June 1976 [11 Sept 1975] 37345/75 Heading B1D A circular settling tank has a radial rotating bridge 13 from which depend scrapers 16 which gather sludge from the tank floor into zones 18, from which inverted U-pipes 17 remove it by siphonic action into central chamber 19, the discharge ends of pipes 17 being closed by cups 20 but having side openings 21 within the cups, the effective areas of openings 21 and hence their respective sludge flow rates being adjustable by moving sleeves 22 vertically to cover the openings. Sleeves 22 enclose the discharge ends of pipes 17 and have upwardly extending handles 23 whereby a workman on bridge 13 may move the sleeves and lock them in various positions by engaging notched plates (25) on the handles with pegs 24 on the bridge (Fig. 4 not shown).
