Abstract

1489623 Entrapped proteins MILES LABORATORIES Inc 30 Oct 1974 [7 Dec 1973] 46990/74 Heading C3H [Also in Division G1] A material useful for removing an antigen from an aqueous fluid comprises an antibody to said antigen entrapped in a solid, substantially non-hydrophilic polymer matrix which is insoluble and substantially non-swellable in water, said matrix having been prepared by interfacial polymerization between two immiscible solvent systems comprising monomers of said polymer, one of which solvent systems is aqueous and contains said antibody, and both solvent systems being substantially inert with respect to the immunological activity of the antibody. The material may be in the form of a membrane formed by dipping a metal loop carrying a film of the aqueous solvent system containing antibody (e.g. aqueous 1 : 6-hexamethylenediamine and bovine serum containing a specific antibody) into a non-aqueous solvent system (e.g. sebacoyl chloride in chloroform/cyclohexane mixture); or the material may be made in particulate form by stirring the two solvent systems together. In Examples 3 and 4, membranes containing the anti-bodies anti-M 4 isoenzyme of lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) and antiplacental alkaline phosphatase are used respectively to remove the antigens M 4 LDH isoenzyme and placental alkaline phosphatase isoenzyme from aqueous solutions thereof.
