Abstract

1488622 Document sorter RECOGNITION EQUIPMENT Inc 5 March 1975 [6 March 1974] 9128/75 Heading G4H [Also in Division B6] A document sorter/processor comprises means feeding a series of documents along a path past an alphanumeric character reader 57, 62, and first and second ink jet printers 70, 74, the printer 70 recording coded data representing that read by the reader 57, 62, and the printer 74 recording updated alphanumeric information, delays 133, 134 being provided to delay actuation of the printers to allow information representing the passage of the document to be recorded. The information representing the passage of the document is derived from a positive item control number generator 125 responding to detection of documents at 24f. The alphanumeric character reader includes both OCR and MICR readers. A bar code reader 65 inhibits operation of the first printer 70 if codes are already recorded on the document. A second bar code reader 72 verifies the information recorded by printer 70. A further ink jet printer 73 may be provided. Each document may be photographed at 24. A succession of incorrectly coded documents counted at 162 stops the machine.
