1487728 Drill guides HICKMAN DESIGNS Ltd 19 Sept 1974 [20 Aug 1973 8 April 1974] 39317/73 and 15519/74 Heading B3C In a guide for a drill bit, a body comprising a handle 10, having one or more workpiece engaging abutments 17, 18A, supports any one of a set of interchangeable differently-dimensioned guide sleeves 14 each comprising relatively movable recessed sleeve parts 14A which can be opened to receive the drill bit. The sleeve parts, which are as shown pivoted are normally biased into a closed position, Fig. 10, by spring-loaded camming wedges 40A, but an actuation of a manually-operated trigger mechanism 32, the wedges are retracted and leaf springs 58, Fig. 11, open the sleeve parts. The sleeve parts may be removed singly from locating pivot post 55, when in the open condition, against the action of springs 58. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 13, the sleeve parts 70 are mounted on a removable post 71 by means of spring 72 which also serve to bias the parts openwardly and the assembly is removable as a whole from the body. The guide sleeve may be located on a platform 16 having a lateral slot 70A for entry of a drill bit and a groove 20 for reception of a pipe-shaped workpiece. The handle may be longitudinally split having a compartment 12 for receiving other guide sleeves of the set closed by a lid 13. The handle may carry an adjustable depth stop 80-83 clamped by a mechanism 84, 85.
