Abstract

1487688 Amplifiers LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS GmbH 11 Feb 1975 [16 Feb 1974] 5749/75 Heading H3W A redundant amplifier circuit, for high reliability, comprises at least three amplifiers 35-37 connected in parallel, each with one input coupled to a common input 55 and their outputs coupled via respective resistances 38-40 to a common output 41, and negative feedback between the common output and the other inputs of each of the amplifiers. Differential (as shown) or asymmetrical amplifiers may be used, and there may be a separate feedback network for each amplifier, e.g. 42, 43, 45 for amplifier 35, or alternatively a single feedback network (8-12), Fig. 1 (not shown), to which the amplifier inputs in common are connected. Resistive and/or reactive elements may be included in a feedback path. The input signal U Eges may be individually compared with the reference voltages of similar Zener diodes 56, 58, 60 (one for each amplifier), the voltage difference controlling the input to each amplifier respectively. It is stated that with such a circuit using three amplifiers the following types of failure may be tolerated: (1) one amplifier producing the positive or negative supply voltage, (2) two amplifiers producing the supply voltage but with opposite signs, (3) two amplifiers having zero output, (4) one Zener diode short-circuited. It is also stated that the action of the circuit depends on one amplifier operating in an analogue mode while the other two may be saturated.
