Abstract
148,767. Store, J. July 11, 1919, [Convention date]. Subaqueous structures.-A method of casting subaqueous structures of concrete &c. consists of sinking hoses, long bags, &c. of pliable and substantially waterproof fabric, and then forcing into these receptacles liquid or semi-liquid concrete. Reinforcing bars or stays may be positioned in the bags before filling. Fig. 1 shows a bag 3 in position for the casting of a foundation; the liquid concrete is forced through pipes 2 until the bag assumes the desired form as shown in Fig. 2. Reinforcement bars 5 and stays 6 of rope or chain may be provided within the bag. Figs. 3 and 4 illustrate the process as applied to the construction of a dam. The layers of bags, a, b, c, d, e, &c., are filled in succession from the lowest upwards. Reinforcements 5 are provided, and an apron 9 of canvas may be used to prevent erosion of the bed of the stream below the dam.
