Abstract

1487366 Dynamo-electric machines ENERCON CORP 10 Oct 1974 43972/74 Heading H2A A variable speed A.C. motor comprises a first member 40 surrounded and magnetically driven by a second member 30 which is rotatable in the opposite direction to member 40 and the speed of which is controlled by a retarder comprising stationary electromagnets and a hipteresis ring 70 mounted on member 30 in order to vary the speed of member 40 while maintaining substantially constant the torque transmitted to a mechanical load driven by member 40. The motor may be a squirrel rage induction motor, as shown, or a synchronous motor, Fig. 4 (not shown). In both cases, the A.C. windings of the motor are disposed on the member 30. The coils 74 of the stationary electromagnets are fed with D.C. the amplitude of which is adjustable to control the retardation of member 30.
