Abstract

1486807 Styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer; polysiloxane rubber compositions MOBIL OIL CORP 25 Nov 1974 [5 Dec 1973] 50947/74 Addition to 1451280 Headings C3P and C3T A finely divided styrene-divinyl benzene copolymer suitable for use as a reactive reinforcing filler for silicone rubbers is obtained by (a) anionic slurry copolymerization in the presence of a block copolymer dispersant followed by (b) termination of the reaction with hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane, vinyl or allyl dimethylchlorosilane, vinyl or allyl methyl dichlorosilane, air followed by acetyl chloride to form a peracetate ester or air followed by benzoylchloride to form a perbenzoate ester. The example refers to the copolymerization of styrene and divinyl benzene in hexane using sec-BuLi and a styrene-tbutyl styrene block copolymer dispersant, followed by termination with t-butyl styrene/ hexamethyl cyclotrisiloxane / allyldimethylchlorosilane; the product is blended with a dimethyl siloxane rubber and peroxy cured.
